Houora Whanau - Aramoho Garden The Story So Far
This is the story of the developments that have taken place at Wai Ora over the last three years.
We begin in early 2007 when we decided to reclaim the land that was not being used at the rear of Wai Ora. At the time this was in scrub and had a lot of rubbish that had been dumped over the years. It was decided to try and build this up and to level it off and plant and landscape it for future developments. Originally we in
tended to place refurbished classrooms on this area and have a playing field and gardens.
The old Site
The old site Having levelled the site it was over-sown with grass in preparation for the next phase of development. At the same time we were fortunate to establish a relation- ship with the Kaitoke Prison Nursery and were given a lot of their reject native plants and shrubs. These we augmented with native plants purchased from the Idea Services native plant nursery at Turoa Road. We used this to establish a native plant shelter belts around the perimeter of Wai Ora. We also wanted to encourage the return of native birds and wildlife to this part of Aramoho.
